I just cannot stand Roger in this game, he makes Sonic sound extremely annoying and I just want him to shut up at multiple points. Unfortunately, this is one of those times. Sometimes he does pretty good like in the Sonic Boom TV Show or in Forces. Roger Craig Smith is.more of a mixed bag. Kate Higgins does a fantastic job as Tails, really capturing the inventive side of his personality while mixing it with a sardonic wit that's honestly refreshing as a counter to Sonic. The game also introduced new voice actors for Sonic and Tails, picking up where Jason Griffith and Amy Palant left off. The only jokes I still really like are Eggman's PA announcements, and the classic line "No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me!", it actually had good buildup and context. I'm sorry, but these jokes that I once thought were pretty hilarious now ring through with that cringe Pontac and Graff style humor that plagues most Sonic games from this point forward. But I do feel it is extremely overrated in a lot of areas, most notably in its plot. I will say right now that I do NOT hate Sonic Colors. But, might as well take this one step at a time. I do like the game, but playing it so much as a jaded 18 year old has left me feeling bitter about the entire thing, but my nostalgia for this game keeps it above SA2 overall.Ī few years ago this might have been seen as completely blasphemous but the hype for this game has died down enough that I can feel more comfortable putting it so low on my list. Only thing I have to answer is why it's so low. Tl dr Story sucks, gameplay is actually kinda decent, don't bother fully completing it. This game's story is just flat out garbage, for many reasons. With that said, let's kick it off with the story. But since I actually went out of my way to fully complete this game over the course of 300+ hours, it's only fitting I answer two questions: Is this game worth playing, and should you fully complete it. Still others argue it's even worse than '06! Bold claims, but do they hold water? Well, that's what I'm here to answer. Granted, it hasn't been lambasted as badly as '06, but it is still regarded as one of the worst Sonic games ever made, and some even go so far as to call it one of the worst games of all time. Shadow the Hedgehog: A Completionist's PerspectiveSo.Shadow the HedgehogĪ game that has a legacy almost as storied and unfortunate as it's successor. I already gave a pretty lengthy review of this game after completing it some time ago, so if you want my full impressions you can just go here: You know, there's really not much for me to talk about here. It's just the least good on this list, that's all. Now, I like all the games on this list, so just because SA2 is at the bottom doesn't mean I hate it. It's the one thing preventing me from doing so. It's fun for a little while, but for me, it quickly wears out its welcome, and I'm not a huge fan of how it's required for 100% completion. For those expecting me to put the Chao Garden in this section, no. It's no Metal Gear Solid 1 or 2, obviously, but it is an admirable attempt. The story was also pretty decent for the early 2000s. They're those type of games that are just fun to play no matter what you're doing in these speed stages. In my opinion, this game and Adventure 1 have the best speed controls of any 3D Sonic game, period. Like I said, I do enjoy the mech stages overall, and the speed stages, despite their repetitive design, are legitimately fun to blast through and speedrun with the overall excellent controls. That's not a joke, I'm genuinely considering that.īut for all my gripes, I do have positives with this game. In fact, they might just be my least favorite main series gameplay style in Sonic. So, in terms of what I didn't like, the story has not aged well at all(but this can be forgiven), the presentation(while an improvement from its predecessor) is still nothing that could be called good, the mech stages are generally OK despite their slow pace but can have cheap elements such as Eternal Engine, a lot of the speed stages feel somewhat same-y and repetitive with the exception of stages like Pyramid Cave and Final Chase, and the treasure hunting stages are not something I enjoy at all. I think for all of these I'll talk about negatives first, and then round it off with positives. But personally, while I had my fun with Sonic Adventure 2, I don't really feel compelled to play it again, and that's sorta the case for a lot of these earlier entries. So I'm gonna put this in the category of "mildly unpopular". For awhile it was super loved, then it was kinda treated like a piece of shit, and now it seems to be somewhat appreciated again with a few naysayers. Admittedly, I'm not really sure what the consensus on this game is anymore.
